With a foundation in USP <795> as a guideline, 3-day basic compounding course combines diverse presentations with hands-on laboratory application to gain or enhance non-sterile compounding knowledge and techniques. Prior to the live program, attendees will complete a learning module covering compounding calculations and submit answers to an online quiz to assess baseline knowledge.The quiz results will be reviewed during the live program.

In Spectrum Pharmacy Institute’s state-of-the-art compounding laboratory, attendees will compound:

  • Suspensions
  • Creams
  • Ointments
  • Suppositories
  • Capsules
  • Transdermals
  • Triturate tablets

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Define the preferred grade of ingredients for inclusion in compounds
  • Outline the quality process for the selection of components and the training and evaluating of personnel
  • Outline facility requirements for non-sterile compounding
  • List the factors to consider when applying beyond-use-dates
  • Recognize a process for quality assessment of compounded preparations
  • Recognize and implement documentation and standard operating procedures required during the compounding process
  • Develop a policy to prevent cross-contamination
  • Outline a product and personnel testing and validation plan
  • Assess key considerations in formulation development and methodology
  • Interpret an active pharmaceutical ingredient certificate of analysis
  • Explain the importance of understanding pharmacy calculations
  • Perform several non-sterile compounding procedures using commonly used equipment
  • Compare the application of different dosage forms in terms of patient population,therapeutic category, route of administration, characteristics and advantages and disadvantages of each

Cancellation Policy:

30+ days before event - Full Refund; 29-14 days before event - 50% Refund; 13-0 days before event - No Refund. Transfer to an alternate class date may be permitted one time with notice or request made at least 14 days prior to the start of the program. Spectrum Pharmacy Institute reserves the right to modify the activity content, faculty and activities; and reserves the right to cancel this activity prior to the start of the program if necessary. We recommend purchasing travel insurance or booking with an airline that will allow you to reschedule your flight if the need arises.

CE Credit Late Fee Policy:

In order to receive CE, a correct NABP number, birthdate (MM/DD), and a completed post-event evaluation are required. Participants must supply this information within 14 days of the activity to allow for processing. Due to new ACPE guidelines, if this information is received after 60 days, a $250 late fee will be assessed before CE will be processed.

This practice-based activity (UAN JA0000855-9999-19-007-L07-P-T) qualifies for 19.5 contact hours (1.95 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education credit. Credit is given upon completion of the didactic and hands-on program. Attendees will be required to complete an evaluation form at the end of the program. Your NABP e-Profile ID and date of birth will be collected at the beginning of the program. CPE credit will be processed after the program evaluation has closed to participants, which will be approximately four weeks following the completion of the activity.
